Build sequence

From tote to tank

  • IBC tote with the top section removed, prepared for conversion into a fish tank
    Week 1: cutting the tote, roughly 150 zł secondhand.
  • Shelving frame under construction to hold the grow bed above the fish tank
    Week 2: shelving frame for the grow bed, around 210 zł in lumber.
  • African catfish introduced to the cycled tank after the bacterial colony stabilised
    Week 6: catfish introduced after cycling completed.
  • First lettuce rafts placed into the grow bed of the aquaponics system
    Week 8: first lettuce rafts seeded into the bed.
  • Pak choi plants established in net cups within the grow channel
    Week 12: pak choi established, first partial harvest.
  • Water testing kit and logbook used for twice weekly readings
    Ongoing: twice-weekly water testing routine.
